Separation By Design is seeking a qualified Project/Industrial Engineer to join our growing company in the Diesel Exhaust Fluid and Oil and Gas space. This person will work in conjunction with the engineering and production teams and are responsible for the full engineering cycle of the products assigned. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical design, fluid systems, and product development, with the ability to take projects from concept through production. You will work closely with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, R&D, quality, and customer support to deliver reliable, cost-effective, and regulatory-compliant solutions.

If you’re passionate about sustainability, product innovation, and solving real-world engineering challenges, we’d love to hear from you.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Designs and creates solid models and drawings that allow the production of complex components required for the production of company products.  Design activities include component & assembly design of both new and existing products; fixtures for machining and assembly; and specification of required textures and surface coatings, including those that are applied through outside operations.
  • Develops new product components using alternate materials and secondary operations to allow the attainment of prescribed physical properties and application characteristics.
  • Identifies and develops method/source for obtaining the alternate material or secondary operation.
  • Understands and utilize sound project management skills to produce prototypes, complete initial testing, and finalize design allowing the component to be manufactured.
  • Creates a complete set of documentation allowing the creation of a costed Bill of Materials.  Documentation typically includes:
  • A parts list, with appropriate part numbers assigned to allow indication of component, component parts and assemblies as they move through the manufacturing process
    • Drawings and associated PDF files that show critical dimensions and tolerances.  Dimensions and tolerances are defined and created using generally accepted principles such as GDT.
    • All drawings necessary for production operations.
    • All production drawings such as machining and assembly drawings are appropriately configured for the operation that will use them.
  • Applies all rules, regulations, and guidelines to allow products to meet the requirements of licensing and approval bodies such as UL (Underwriter’s Laboratories), OIML (International Organization of Legal Metrology), CE marking, ABS (American Bureau of Shipbuilding), etc.
  • Supports manufacturing by clarifying dimensions and fit, resolving tolerance problems, and describing methods for assembly.  Supporting knowledge for this activity includes complete understanding of accessories, how they function, and how they are attached to the meter being manufactured.
  • Designs modification of existing product to overcome a manufacturing obstacle or to achieve additional component functionality.
  • Completes the necessary documentation for manufacturability using a variety of company and regulatory standards.
  • Researches and obtains answers to a variety of questions and problems.  Questions and problem solutions may result from troubleshooting production issues, design problems, quality issues, or other internal departments.  Creation of solutions and answers may require complex thought and extensive research of reference materials and subject matter experts outside of the Separation By Design.
